A holiday villa between volcanic rock, the sea, and smart lighting

On the island of Pantelleria, southwest of Sicily, stands a very special holiday home. Built with thick stone walls and several white domes typical of the local architecture, this house combines Mediterranean tradition with fully digitalized lighting thanks to our Certified Partner in Italy, Luceled Pro Slr, and to Adquio and Casambi.

The result: a simple, seamless user experience for the owners and their guests, despite an extremely complex environment for the installation.

The challenge: thick walls, volcanic rock, and a lot of outdoor lighting

From the very beginning, the goal of the project was clear for our partner Luceled Pro Slr:

  • Deliver maximum ease of use in a home designed for rest and relaxation.

  • Integrate all indoor and outdoor lighting into a single system.

  • Overcome the technical challenges posed by:

    • Very thick stone walls and volcanic rock.

    • Long distances between outdoor luminaires.

    • Areas where the wireless signal was seriously weakened.

On top of that, the house has a huge number of light points, especially outdoors, where lighting is key to enhancing both the architecture and the surrounding landscape.

The solution: Adquio + Casambi, each one shining where it does best.

For this home, Luceled Pro Slr opted for a hybrid architecture where Adquio and Casambi work hand in hand, each one doing what it does best:

Installed equipment

  • 40 Casambi modules between Ted and ASD, including 2 Ted modules used as signal repeaters to guarantee stable coverage even through the thick walls.

  • 1 Adquio Mini controller.

  • 2 Adquio 18 Relay expansions, directly managing the most critical loads.

  • 1 Adquio Mini iOS expansion to provide a dedicated digital input interface.

  • 2 Adquio Wall Screen 4″ control panels.

  • 1 Lithernet gateway, connecting the Casambi world with the Adquio ecosystem.

  • 3 Liga.Air Tast8.240 and 1 Tast4.240 from Lichtteam for connecting standard switches to the Casambi network.
  • Luminaires from Occhio were used: Occhio 4 Più Alto air and Occhio Luna pura.

Control distribution

InSide

Interior of the home

39 luminaires including LED strips, spotlights, and other light points.

Main control with Casambi, taking full advantage of its scenes and flexibility.

OutSide

Exterior of the home

More than 220 luminaires along pathways, façades, the porch, and the pool area.

All of them are flawlessly managed by Adquio’s 18 relays, including the pool lighting.

Scenes

12 scenes in Casambi

Different moods for indoors and outdoors: sunset, dinner on the porch, night-time arrival, rest mode, etc.

Scenes that are activated from the control screens in a completely natural way, with a very good reaction speed despite the physical constraints of the building.

One of the biggest challenges in this project was the signal attenuation caused by the stone walls and the volcanic rock typical of Pantelleria. This could have compromised the user experience.

The combination of:

  • good planning of the Casambi network,

  • the smart use of Ted modules as signal repeaters, and

  • the robustness of Adquio’s relay-based control for critical areas

made it possible to achieve a stable, fast, and reliable system.

The result is lighting that responds immediately, both indoors and outdoors, without the user ever noticing the technical complexity behind it.

Benefits for the owners and their guests

Simple user experience: Intuitive scenes, activated from the app, perfect for a holiday home where not all users are familiar with the system.

Full control of the property: From the architectural exterior lighting to the atmosphere in the bedrooms, including the porch and the pool.

Respect for aesthetics: There was no need to “fill” the house with visible devices; the technology is discreetly integrated into a very distinctive and traditional architecture.

Scalability and future-proofing: With Adquio as the brain of the system, the installation is ready to grow, add new elements, or integrate with other building systems whenever the client wishes.

This villa in Pantelleria shows how Adquio and Casambi can coexist perfectly, even in complex architectural environments:

  • Thick stone walls.

  • A large number of outdoor luminaires.

  • The need for a simple, elegant user experience.

Thanks to the combination of Adquio 18 Relay, Casambi Ted and ASD modules, Lithernet, and well-designed scenes by our partner Luceled Pro Slr, light becomes an essential part of the home experience—without adding any complexity for the user.
